Ruth Broderick and Kate Carey have reached the All-Ireland final
Two students from Loreto Secondary School, Clonmel, have reached the All-Ireland Final of the Certified Irish Angus Beef Schools Competition, which will take place this Friday, March 6, in Croke Park.
Ruth Broderick and Kate Carey, both Transition Year students, developed a project called AngusCare, which investigates the use of monitoring technology to improve the health and welfare of Irish Angus calves during their early life stage.
Their research explores how activity-monitoring collars may help farmers detect illness earlier, improve calf growth rates, reduce veterinary costs, and support more sustainable beef production.
Ruth, who comes from a farming family outside Clonmel, and Kate, who hopes to study veterinary medicine, combined their shared interests in agriculture, animal welfare, and sustainability to develop the project.
