Emma Cronin played a key role in Moyle Rovers' success last year
2024 was a special year for the Moyle Rovers ladies football club, as they won their first-ever senior county final. The trophy for the winners, the Joe McGrath Cup, is named after a Moyle Rovers stalwart, so this was an extra-special victory for the club.
Emma Cronin played a key role in the team’s success. Having moved from her more established centre back position to centrefield, she used her vast experience and skill to help her team reach the final.
In the final she showed great leadership and composure to help her team recover from an early Fethard scoring blitz. A crucial score from Emma in the first half helped settle the team, as they went on to secure a famous victory.
During the year she also represented the Tipperary senior football team in her seventh season with the team. She played an important part in ensuring that Tipperary retained their senior status with a victory over Laois in a relegation playoff.
Also in 2024 Emma, together with her sister Michelle, helped Maynooth University reach the final of the Giles Cup competition in the colleges Higher Education ladies football competition.
Emma Cronin has been rewarded for her outstanding year with an Annerville award, sponsored by Bulmers, which she and the award recipients in other sports will receive at the annyual function of the Tipperary United Sports Panel at the Talbot Hotel Clonmel next Saturday night, January 25.
Some tickets for the event are available from Sports Panel member Ken Conway, email conwayken@eircom.net
A player whose dedication and commitment to the game over many years stands out, Emma is following in the footsteps of her father Liam, who was also honoured by the Tipperary United Sports Panel with an award in 1999.
