Hospice Fundraiser – A Huge Success

The power of community commitment and unselfishness was very much in evidence in the closing days of December and the first days of January 2023 in Burncourt.

Burncourt Hospice Committee was delighted to revive what has been the traditional main fundraiser in the local communities.
This started with the Skeheenarinky 45 Drive Card Game on Tuesday, December 27 in the Olde Shanbally at 3pm. Ably organised by Seánie and friends this was a buoyant start to the fundraising.

On Wednesday, December 28, the Hospice Auction Night took place in Ryan’s Bar Burncourt. Items and donations for this worthy cause were greatly appreciated. A great night was had by all with the worthwhile lots exciting some competitive bidding.

Auctioneer on the night Kevin Casey did a tremendous job with his lively banter and persuasive tactics.
A huge thank you to Maureen Creed for the ticket selling for the Mega Raffle, to the sponsors -the Tobin family and to Ryan’s Bar and The Olde Shanbally for facilitating the events.

All roads led to Glengarra on New Year’s Day for the New Year’s Day Walk held by Burncourt Hospice Committee together with the Rhododendron Walking Festival Committee, whose support is tremendous. A real inter generational event. The weather was kind as was the generosity of the participants.

The events concluded in Burncourt Community Hall with welcome treats and refreshments. The amount raised to date is testament to the spirited response of the local communities and an acknowledgement of the selfless and unstinting work of Burncourt Hospice Committee.

All funds raised go directly to South Tipperary Hospice and The Hospice Suite at St. Theresa’s Hospital, Clogheen. Money raised in the community for the benefit of the community.

The combination of events at the time of writing has resulted in the amazing sum of €13,000. What a response!
