Councillor Jim Ryan has called for a sensory room to be assigned at Thurles Library.

He said Thurles currently has a popular sensory pod but that parents feel more room is needed.

At last week’s sitting of Thurles/Templemore Municipal Council, the councillor said: “We have a modern building, I think it would be a sin not to have one.”

The councillor said he raised it previously but asks that it be looked at again.

A Tipperary County Council official answered the query but said there was no room in the library at present.

He said the scheme under which sensory equipment are funded does not cover structural works. But he did say the pod is proving popular.

Cllr Sean Ryan praised the new equipment at the library, including an Acord Tab for elderly users, a C-pen and a language book.

He said the C-pen was particularly welcome and was “absolutely great to see” it in the report.
