Tipp minor footballers produce a bit of class to see off the Banner in Thurles

Tipp minors beat Clare tonight in Thurles

The Tipperary minor footballers produced a genuine show of honesty and spirit to overcome a dogged Clare side by four points in the end at Thurles this evening in the Munster minor football championship. The home side led 0-7 to 0-3 at half time after dominating possession.

Both teams were well in it across the second half but Clare had the bulk of possession and worked hard to get back within a point of Tipp with five minutes to go. They pushed their way back into the game with a free on 55 minutes to level it up but it dropped short and Tipp went down the other end to go 0-10 to 0-8 up.

Tipperary pushed on with more late attacks to beat Clare 0-12 to 0-8 and reach the next round where they will now play Limerick in the Darryl Darcy cup final. The Shannonsiders beat Waterford in tonight's other big game with both games being played at the same time.

In Thurles tonight the Tipperary players produced genuine performances across the field with Michael Connellan and Billy Tierney building attacks from defence. Liam Freaney and Louis Coughlan amongst others were to the fore in the forwards. Tipp roll on in the championship now, still undefeated after three games.
