A councillor has appealed to Tipperary County Council to write to landowners requesting them to remove roadside trees riddled with Ash Dieback Disease due to the public safety hazard they pose.

Cllr David Dunne of Sinn Féin described these trees as “widow makers” when he issued his appeal at Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District’s monthly meeting.

He said there were a lot of dead trees along roadsides due to Ash Dieback Disease and warned they were an accident waiting to happen.

The Carrick-on-Suir councillor said he noticed these trees particularly around rented land and complained this health and safety issue has been highlighted a number of times.

Michael Moroney of Tipperary County Council’s Environment & Climate Action Section said he would “link in” with the Roads Section in relation to Cllr Dunne’s concerns.
