More road roundabouts in Tipperary's largest town are in line for an upgrade

The scheme is "a fantastic opportunity" for the council to work with businesses, the meeting was told

Seven or eight companies are interested in becoming involved in the sponsorship scheme for road roundabouts in Clonmel.

District Administrator Carol Creighton also told a meeting of Clonmel Borough District that it could cost Tipperary County Council €6,000 to carry out initial work on the roundabouts.

An artist had been secured to create an image depicting a seed blowing in the wind for the Cahir Road Roundabout, near The Poppyfield retail park.

This artistic feature would be included with the wild flowers at that roundabout.

She agreed with Cllr Michael Murphy that it was a very successful scheme.

Cllr Murphy said he understood that companies were prepared to make a 100 percent investment and there would be no financial burden on the council.

This was a very successful scheme that had resulted in the transformation of the roundabouts at the Carrigeen Industrial Estate and especially at Toberaheena, while a fantastic job had also been carried out at the roundabout near the Abbott Vascular and Boston Scientific plants.

The Killheffernan roundabout was in a poor state and would be a perfect fit for this scheme.

Cllr Murphy said a roundabout was the first impression that people had of Clonmel when they arrived in the town, and the biggest winner in this case was the environment.

It was also a fantastic opportunity for the council to work with businesses and for businesses to advertise.

He suggested that the council reach out to Waterford County Council to see how its roundabout scheme had evolved, especially in Dungarvan.

Ms Creighton confirmed that she would discuss this with the new District Engineer Nicola Keating, who had previously worked with Waterford County Council.
