The performance space will be located at the car park opposite the Abbey House of Prayer in Clonmel
Tenders have been received from contractors for the development of a performance space in Abbey Street in Clonmel, District Engineer Nicola Keating told a meeting of Clonmel Borough District.
The performance space will be made available at the car park opposite the Abbey House of Prayer.
The area has hosted public events in the past, including the Applefest festival in September.
In a statement to The Nationalist, Cllr Siobhán Ambrose said that when completed, the car park will have a dual role.
“It will continue to serve as a car park but it will also be used as a performance space when required.
“The proposed works will include the construction of a performance stage, infrastructural ground works to service the performance area, and also removable canopies.
“It is hoped that these redevelopment works will be completed in the summer,” she added.
Cllr Ambrose also said that following a successful application to the Arts Council, tenders are going out this month for the appointment of an Arts Consultant to review both the public and private arts facilities and performance spaces that are currently available around Clonmel, with a view to identifying the relevant gaps within this area.
