Meeting calls for provision of student accommodation at Kickham Barracks site

Third level students have 'nowhere to stay' in this Tipperary town

There is still space for student accommodation at the former Kickham Barracks site in Clonmel, says Cllr Siobhán Ambrose

Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) have been contacted for an update on the possible future provision of student accommodation within the Kickham Barracks site in Clonmel.

Contact with TUS was made by District Administrator Carol Creighton, she stated in her report to a meeting of Clonmel Borough District.

The issue was raised by Cllr Siobhán Ambrose, who said that there was still space for student accommodation within the Kickham Barracks site.

Such accommodation on site would be cheaper for students and would free up space in the rental market, which was under pressure, she stated.

Cllr Pat English said that this was an issue for the town. The amount of student accommodation was very low and there was nowhere for students to stay.
