Following on from last year’s very successful Tractor Run, the students at Presentation Ballingarry are very excited as the build-up to this year’s event begins. The official launch took place this week when Fr. Celsus Tierney visited the school and spoke with students about the importance of this fundraising event for the people of Malawi.
Presentation Ballingarry’s association with Malawi began in 2004 when a group of TY students and their teacher Ms. Regan worked in cooperation with “Self Help” and raised €10.000 to help in the sinking of fifty wells to provide fresh water for people in rural communities. Last year, in co-operation with Trocaire, the inaugural tractor run raised €3,000 to assist the people of Malawi who were suffering severe deprivation due to drought.
This year we are delighted to continue to help the most vulnerable of communities in Malawi by supporting the work of Bishop John Ryan, a Holycross native who has been in Malawi since 1978 and whose Diocese is one and a half times the size of Munster. Bishop Ryan has always seen education as key and is most grateful of all the help he receives.
All monies raised from this year’s “Tractor Run” on Sunday, April 14 will go towards helping a team of Irish volunteers, who are all paying their own costs in terms of flights, transport and vaccinations, complete the building of several schools, over a two week period, so that this mission can provide education to children who long for what many of us take for granted.
In Malawi the average class size is one hundred children per class, and we at Presentation Ballingarry would love to assist these children achieve an education so they can look forward to a brighter future. In light of this, we urge you to come and support our fundraiser on what promises to be a fantastic day for all the family. In assisting the most vulnerable you are indeed living out the Gospel message this Easter.
Should you like to donate or assist us in any way please contact Ms. Regan at Presentation Ballingarry or Fr. Celsus Tierney P.P Holycross Abbey.
Save the Date: Sunday, April 14.
Remember no car, lorry, truck or tractor is too big or too small. In coming along on the day, you can change a child's life forever.
There will be refreshments before and after the event.
