The grant helps older people reap the health benefits of being active
Age and Opportunity is marking the distribution of its Active National Grant that provides significant funding for sport and physical activity amongst older people.
The grant scheme is a combined initiative from Age and Opportunity and Sport Ireland. This year it is providing €15,730 to 61 groups in Tipperary.

This year it is providing over €300,000 to support sport and physical activities run by 1,167 groups and organisations.
These range from Active Retirement Groups, ICAs, Men’s/Women’s Sheds, Physical Activity Leaders (PALs), care settings and other sports and social groups.
The successful Tipperary groups are:
Aherlow ICA, Annacarty/Donohill Active Retirement Association, Aras Mhuire Day Care Centre, Ardeen Nursing Home, Ballinaclough ICA Guild, Ballina Handball Club, Ballingarry ICA, Ballymackey Women's Shed, Black Castle Archers, Blackcastle Templemore Harps [Bt Harps] FC, Borrisokane Athletic Club, Borrisokane Day Care Centre, Borrisokane Men's Shed, Borrisoleigh Active Social Club, Bramleigh Lodge Nursing Home, Brothers of Charity Active Retirement.
They also include Cahir ARA, Cahir Day Care Centre, Cappawhite Active Retirement Association, Carrick-on-Suir Community Resource Centre, Cashel and District ARA, Clonakenny ICA, Clonmel ARA, County Tipperary Lawn Tennis Club, Duhill Community Council, Family Carers Ireland Tipperary, Faugheen ICA, Fethard and District Day Centre, Fethard Guild ICA, Fethard Regional Community Sport and Recreational Campus CLG, Fethard Town Park Men's Shed.
They also include Gallally ARA, Golden Years Day Care Centre, Grangemockler ARA, Healthy Club Newport GAA, Kilcash Ladies Club, Kilsheelan and Kilcash ARA, Knock GAA, Millennium Family Resource Centre CLG, Mount Bruis Women's Group, Moycarkey Borris Littleton Men's Shed, Moycarkey ICA South Tipp Federation, Nenagh Guild ICA, Powerstown/Lisronagh ICA, Rathkeeven Guild ICA.
They also include the Retired Teachers Association, Tipperary branch; Riverdale Pitch and Putt, Roscrea Cares CLG, Sean Kelly Sport Centre, Senior Exercise Class Thurles Crokes, Silvermines Men's Shed, Silvermines Senior Citizens Committee, South Tipperary Mental Health Services HSE, Templemore Active Retirement Association, Thurles COPD support group, Thurles ICA, Thurles Men's Shed, Thurles Tennis Club, Tipperary COPD Support, Tipperary Sports Partnership and Vee Valley Day Care Centre.
