An Bord Pleanála head office in Dublin
An Bord Pleanála has ruled that it is the appropriate planning authority to decide on a proposed windfarm development near Thurles as the project is considered a Strategic Infrastructure Development.
Following a pre-application consultation process, the appeals board decided on May 3 that the 10 to 12 wind turbines proposed for the townlands of Brittas, Rossestown and Clobanna near Thurles by prospective applicant, Brittas Windfarm Ltd., falls within the definition of energy infrastructure and is considered to be of “strategic importance”.
In view of this, it ruled that a planning application for the proposed development must be made directly to An Bord Pleanála.
According to An Bord Pleanála, wind turbines with a maximum height of 185 are proposed by Brittas Windfarm Ltd for this project. The electricity generation capacity of the proposed wind farm is circa 60MW to 72MW.
An Bord Pleanála has requested Brittas Windfarm Ltd to send all planning application documents to a list of Government departments, agencies and local authorities.
