Tipperary County Council has been urged by its elected Cathaoirleach to ensure the condition of Cashel’s former fire station doesn’t fall into dilapidation while a new use is being found for the building.

The call was issued by Cllr Declan Burgess, who is from Cashel, at the Council’s July meeting.

He impressed on Council management the importance of maintaining the upkeep of the Ladyswell Street premises due to its location in the centre of a heritage town.

Cashel’s fire fighters have moved to a new €3.2m fire station at Waller’s Lot, which opened in January.

Tipperary Fire Service’s Chief Fire Officer Dave Carroll responded that the old fire station is in the hands of the Council's Property Unit in Clonmel and options are being examined for it at the moment. He promised to raise Cllr Burgess’ concerns with the director.
