Tipperary County Council aims to submit the planning application for the €10m redevelopment of Clonmel Library before Christmas.

County Librarian Damien Dullaghan updated councillors on the project at Tipperary County Council’s October meeting in Nenagh.
Responding to Cllr Siobhán Ambrose, he said the Library Service has been working on the planning process for the project and it is progressing well.

He said the Library Service hoped to have the Part 8 planning application lodged before Christmas.

Director of Services Brian Beck said the Council has €3m funding in place from the Library Capital Fund for the Clonmel Library project

He explained to Cllr Pat English that the Council wants to get planning permission in place so it can apply to the Department of Rural & Community Development for more funding for the project.

“The hardest battle is to get planning in place and we are funding that,” he said.
