Thirty-nine members of Mala’s Stage School in Carrick-on-Suir will perform at Disney Paris' Videopolis Theatre at the beginning of February.

Senior members of the stage school, who are aged between 13 and 22, will perform a 20-minute long show at the theatre in the famous theme park near Paris at noon on Monday, February 3.

This will be the stage school’s first trip and performance abroad and there is huge excitement and anticipation among its members.

In keeping with the venue, the young singers and dancers will perform a number of songs from Disney’s The Lion King and there will be a Spider Man themed scene in the show.

A salsa dance to the music of Jennifer Lopez’s Let’s Get Loud will also be among the highlights.

Megan Raggett, who runs the stage school with her mother Mala and sister Ruthie, said she knew of a group from Waterford that performed at Disney Paris every second year and looked into how their stage school could perform there too.

She submitted an application and video audition to the Disney Performing Arts Initiative for the stage school to perform at Disney Paris and were delighted to be accepted

Mala, Megan and Ruthie will be leading the troupe that leaves for France on February 1. Megan said joining their senior performers on the three-day trip will be a large entourage of their family members.

“They are buzzing in anticipation. Even their younger siblings are coming into class talking about packing their bags and getting ready to go on the trip. There is great excitement,” she told The Nationalist.

Mala Stage School’s performance at Disney Paris follows hot on the heels of the group’s success in winning three awards at the All-Ireland Variety Showcase Showdown competition in Dublin last November.

More than 100 singers, dancers and actors from the stage school, formerly called the Rising Stars Variety Group took part in the competition.
