Councillor Declan Burgess
Councillor Declan Burgess has called for the old town commissioner's fountain in Cashel to be restored.
In a statement, Cllr Burgess said: "During the consultation period and indeed the Part 8 process of the Cashel Town Realm plan, the Fountain at the Back of the pipes was identified as a key feature in our town centre.
"There is great value in the restoration of this fountain and returning it to its original glory.
"The 1840’s fountain is a unique and eye-catching feature on the Main Street," said Cllr Burgess.
"I believe the current form of the fountain is an eye sore structure, one that is in disrepair. I have requested that the roof needs repair, stone maintenance carried out and the plumbing restored. This feature in our historic town can be once again a key public realm feature and contribute to the success of our town centre.
"I am delighted to confirm the Municipal District has prepared an application to the 'Built Heritage Investment Scheme' and I hope that with a small level of funding Cashel’s fountain can positively contribute to the vibrancy of our town centre. I will continue to work on this worthwhile heritage project and hopefully we will see it delivered in the near future," said Cllr Burgess.
