A section of the N24 road near Clonmel
The Mayor of Clonmel has urged Tipperary County Council to lobby the new Government hard to fund the next design stage of the N24 Cahir to Waterford upgrade project.
Cllr Pat English made the plea at the Council’s January meeting where he welcomed the smooth progress of the design of the Cahir to Limerick Junction N24 upgrade.
The preferred transport solution corridor for the upgraded N24 between Cahir and Waterford was announced in January, 2024 but funding wasn’t allocated by the Government last year to further progress the design and planning of this section of the project. The Council requires an estimated €7.5m to complete that process.
“We must get onto Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the new government to ensure this important section of the N24 is back on the books,” Cllr English declared,
“A new commitment from the new government for this project going forward is essential for a town the size of Clonmel and other towns along this section of the route, he added.
Council Senior Roads Engineer John Nolan said the Council fully expected to receive TII funding for the Cahir to Limerick Junction N24 project this year but expected the opposite will be the case for the N24 Cahir to Waterford project.
He agreed the Council needs to push as much as it can to secure funding to continue the Cahir to Waterford part of the N24 upgrade.
