Co. Tipperary’s fire fighters busy tackling grass fires during heatwave

Co. Tipperary's Fire Service has issued an appeal to the public to take precautions to prevent grass and vegetation fires during the current heatwave as their fire fighters have been called to  a number of grass fires around the county over the past week. 

Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer Ray O'Leary said their fire brigades based at South Tipperary's five Fire Stations have been busy tackling grass fires over the past week. 

He said grass and other vegetation was "tinder dry" at the moment and the slightest spark will set them on fire. 

He pointed out that it something that would otherwise be innocuous such as a glass bottle lying on the ground and catching the suns rays or discarded cigarette. He appealed to the public not to use portable barbecues in green areas and pointed out they were even beings discouraged on beaches.
