LEADER funding of €112,500 for Canon Hayes Recreation Centre in Tipperary Town

The most recent round of Leader funding has been announced today and €112,500 has been granted by South Tipperary Development Company for the Canon Hayes Recreation Centre in Tipperary Town.

This Leader funding is to remove and dispose of the existing grass carpet (hockey type), repair the shock pad if required and refit new 3G synthetic all-weather grass pitch.

Speaking about this good news for the town of Tipperary Fine Gael candidate Mary Newman Julian said ‘This funding under the Leader Programme is great news for Tipperary Town and the local community. Canon Hayes Recreation Centre is a valuable amenity in the town and investment is required to ensure the Centre is viable and profitable into the future.’

The estimated full cost of the new all-weather pitch in Canon Hayes Centre is €170,000 so this grant aid from Leader will cover 66% of the overall cost of the project.

A total of €180,241 has been allocated in Tipperary with €59,204 for Newcastle Community Hall, other monies for feasibility studies in Nenagh.

Leader is a community-led approach to local development funded through Ireland’s Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, with a budget of €250 million in grant aid available to support rural communities and local businesses. Minister Michael Ring and the Department of Rural and Community Development is responsible for managing the Leader Programme and it is managed at local level by South Tipperary Development company and North Tipperary Leader Partnership here in County Tipperary.
