John FitzGerald wants Clonmel town’s centre to become a place “that we can be proud of again”.
“We have to get the infrastructure of the town looking better to make it more inviting and vibrant. It behoves us to concentrate on that as one of the priorities for the next five years,” says the Fine Gael councillor.
With a total of 1,134 votes, which increased to 1,824 following the distribution of his party colleague Michael Murphy’s surplus, he was elected on the second count.
Having being co-opted onto Tipperary County Council in 2020 following Garret Ahearn’s elevation to the Seanad, Cllr FitzGerald says he is “absolutely thrilled” to be elected formally.
“This is making it really official,” he said.
