Fair Deal scheme is changing
Fianna Fáil MEP Billy Kelleher has welcomed the announcement that the Fair Deal will be amended to better support farming families.
Kelleher was commenting after the Minister for Older People, Mary Butler TD made the announcement at an event that he co-hosted with her at the National Ploughing Championships last week.
“Under the changes announced last week, the definition of who can act as a successor will be broadened in order to ensure the viability of family farms into the future.
“This is a very welcome change and something I, and other Fianna Fáil public representatives have called for in recent years.
“I am delighted that Minister Butler has engaged with us and listened to our concerns and is now legislating for these changes.
“As an MEP, I am committed to standing up for Ireland’s traditional model of family farming. This is an important step and I will continue to work with farm organisations to deliver on this commitment,” concluded Kelleher.
