Cappawhite Gaels and Clonoulty/Rossmore will be competing for the Tony Brennan Cup in west Tipperary

Kilcommon is the venue for Sunday's West Tipperary Under 21 A Hurling Championship final

The 63rd O’Dwyer Steel West Tipperary Under 21 A Hurling Championship final will pit Cappawhite Gaels against Clonoulty/Rossmore this Sunday, December 17 at 12 noon in Kilcommon.

Tap and Go payment option will be available for admission.

Cappawhite Gaels (Cappawhite/Solohead) will be playing in their sixth final. In 1975 they defeated Golden/Kilfeacle in the final to complete a two in a row.

Cappawhite have had more recent success in 2016 when joined with Sean Treacys, as they completed a two in a row, defeating Golden/Kilfeacle in the final having beaten Clonoulty/Rossmore the previous year.

Cappawhite have won the competition four times in their own right, the most recent being in 1999 and 1997, while they also won titles in 1965 and 1968. They have four titles joined with Eire Og (1962, '77, '78 and 1980).

Cappawhite Gaels will be aiming to achieve the West Under 21 A football and hurling double, which was last completed in 2018 by Clonoulty/Rossmore. Only five clubs have achieved the feat on eight previous occasions.

Clonoulty/Rossmore will be contesting their 33rd final in their own right in the grade and looking for their 22nd title in their own right, while they also have two titles when joined with Eire Og in 1972 and 1973.

They last claimed honours in the grade in 2019 when defeating Cashel King Cormacs in the final. Clonoulty/Rossmore have been the most consistent team in this championship in recent years, winning eleven titles since 2005.

The Tony Brennan Cup will be presented to the winners. The cup was first presented in 1964, with Cashel King Cormacs the first recipients following their victory over Clonoulty/Rossmore in Golden.

The cup was presented to the board by the former Tipperary full back as a gesture of thanks for a testimonial fund that was initiated for him when he was hospitalised for a prolonged period with TB.
