Sam O'Farrell lifts the Munster Minor Cup back in 2022.
Tipperary GAA has requested that the cup presented to the Munster minor hurling winners be renamed after legendary former hurler John Doyle.
The Munster Council executive is to shortly consider the counties’ proposals to rechristen the silverware for the two competitions, with Clare GAA also looking for the Munster U20 cup to be renamed after a footballing legend in the county, Noel Walsh.
Holycross Ballycahill legend Doyle won eight All-Ireland senior titles between 1949 and 1965 during his illustrious playing career for the Premier, and formed one part of the formidably named full-back trio in history which was aptly called 'Hell’s Kitchen.'
Doyle, who with Jimmy Barry Murphy holds the record for Munster SHC titles with 10, also claimed three senior county titles with his club, was twice a provincial minor winner and an All-Ireland MHC medalist in 1947.
The trophy currently awarded for the Munster MHC is called the TWA Airlines Cup and if Tipperary’s application is accepted, the silverware could be replaced with his name
