Tipperary councillor writes to Uisce Éireann over lack of update on waste treatment plant
A Nenagh councillor has taken issue with Uisce Éireann and how it handles queries from public representatives.
Cllr Seamus Morris has written to the utility making a formal complaint about the lack of an update on upgrade works on Ballycommon Waste Water Treatment Plant.
“As you know due to my request for inspection of this plant it was discovered that it was operating without a discharge licence and without that licence the EPA effectively closed down the discharges from the plant when it was discovered that the plant was unlicensed,” he wrote.
Cllr Morris stated that since then, Uisce Éireann has being tankering waste from the plant at a cost of at least €100,000 since early 2023.
“There is also the fact that a proposed new housing development is awaiting permission to go to planning is being held up due to the fact that the WWTP, which has a capacity of 300pe is not currently operational which in turn is holding up badly-needed development in Ballycommon .
“As a trusted local representative in the area I have been requesting updates frequently in 2023 but my requests late in the year have failed to get an update, despite four emails and two phone calls, which is a huge disappointment for me and my constituents.
“Frankly the whole communication system between Uisce Éireann and local councillors leaves a lot to be desired,” he wrote.
