The €17,319.49 proceeds of Daffodil Day collections in Carrick-on-Suir and Piltown was presented to the Irish Cancer Society at a ceremony at the Nano Nagle Community Centre last Thursday, April 18.
It was a record tally for the local Daffodil Day volunteers who presented the cheque to ICS Community Fundraiser for Munster Nicola McMahon.
Nicola thanked the people of Carrick-on-Suir and Piltown for their unwavering generosity and all the volunteers who dedicate their time to the fundraising collection on March 22 last.
Marie Walsh, who with the committee organises and coordinates the Daffodil Day collections in the Carrick and Piltown areas, was thrilled with the response.
“It is with grateful appreciation we say a big thank you to all who gave up their time and volunteered on Daffodil Day,” she said.
“The amount raised €17,319.49 showed the amazing generosity by the people of Carrick-on-Suir, Piltown and environs. Thank you to all who stood at collection points, businesses who allowed us collect outside their premises.
“Special thanks to Maria Madden and the Lions Club, the Mercy Sisters, Tyrone Power of River Rescue and the 26 Scoil Mhuire students who helped out.
“Thanks also to Adam Green for supplying the fresh daffodils each year, Thomas Duggan for the use of the shop and all the volunteers who worked in the shop.
“And thanks to Bank of Ireland and Joan Moloney for her lovely knitted Tipperary and Ireland hats, the Day Care Centre and Nano Nagle Community Resource Centre team.
“Together you helped make Daffodil Day the great success that it was. And also thanks to our long-term volunteer Brendan Mulvaney who helped us out again on the day.”
The Daffodil Day Committee extend condolences to the family of the late Sr Immaculata and her fellow sisters at the Mercy Convent in Carrick-on-Suir. For many years Sr Immaculata volunteered and fundraised for Daffodil Day and loved helping out.
She will be sadly missed by all members of Carrick-on-Suir Daffodil Day Committee. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
