Walkway from Bansha village is in dire need of upgrading right away

Leitrim Village 5km Run/Walk

Walkways need a lot of maintenance. Bansha village needs immediate attention.

With the tourist season upon us more and more people are taking to the countryside for relaxing walks and more challanging trips.

The issue of a neglected walkway in Bansha was highlighted recently as the walkway is not currently up to the required levels needed to ensure that people can use it daily.

The issue was raised at the recent Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District meeting with one Councillor saying that funding likely to be made available in 2025 was not adequate for the coming months.

The motion read “that this Municipal District carry out works on the walkway from Bansha Village (on the Cahir side) as far as Barnlough (Bolands) Cross. Works were recently carried out to improve the verges but the walkway itself is in a state of disrepair, muddy and subject to flooding.”

Councillor Annemarie Ryan raised the matter and said it was “disappointing to have to wait until Q1 in 2025 and even then it is not guaranteed.

“I was out there last week. I’m not sure if the Roads Section could do some sort of short term remedial work as I mean the pathway is really muddy - even if it was scrapped back and cleaned up?” she asked.

The height of the tourist season is upon us and the path will be used by locals and tourists in great numbers so the Councillor was pushing for a solution.

“There are quite a few people that walk on that path as far as that cross that go in and out to Bansha Village,” she added stressing that she understood the situation but hoped a solution could be found in the short term to make it more ‘user friendly’ ahead of when the bigger funding was made available.

Cllr Roger Kennedy agreed with Cllr Ryan saying that he too had “received numerous representations about that from people walking out that way”.
