Wind Energy Ireland is encouraging the people of Tipperary to get out and about this summer exploring the windfarms of the county.
Their new initiative "Get Out in the Wind," wants people to explore the windfarms across Tipperary, which are open to the public, free of charge all year.
There are number of Tipperary based wind farms across the county participating in the month-long campaign.
Garracummer Wind Farm and Mienvee Wind Farm, both of which are located on the Tipperary-Cork border, are open and ready to be explored as part of the campaign.
Each of these wind farms offers visitors a choice of forest trails of varying lengths and difficulties, including part of the Multeen way, which are suitable for walking, hiking, biking or running.
The trails offer fantastic views of the surrounding countryside, as visitors weave through some of the country’s most powerful wind turbines.
It’s the perfect location for families to get out this June, and will help people understand how Garracummer and Mienvee operate by enabling visitors to get up close to the source of more than a third of the country’s annual electricity supply.
Noel Cunniffe, Wind Energy Ireland CEO, said: “Irish people want the affordable energy that wind energy gives us. They also want the energy security and the local jobs that Irish wind farms provide. And now, they can see all of these benefits up close as part of a free family-friendly activity all around the country."
“We’re proud to be leading Ireland’s clean energy revolution so we are dedicating the full month of June to celebrating our wind farms with our Get Out in the Wind Campaign," he added.
“Wind energy is an Irish success story that benefits communities all across Ireland, supporting jobs, and cutting our carbon emissions and your bills."
“But wind farms can also be a haven for wildlife and offer wonderful family days out with a variety of walking, biking, horse-riding and hiking trails on offer, many of them open to the public every day," he said.
