Thurles Eliogarty committee approve major community project at AGM

Durlas Eile Eliogarty Memorial Committee recently held its AGM.

Eighteen committee members took part in what could be said was a very successful meeting, with the full agreement of a very important programme going forward.

The extension to the community wall by 28 feet will be very important for St Mary's International Garden of Remembrance going forward.

The extension, when finished, will enhance that area.

It will also be available for new memorials and small plaques of remembrance.

We have had requests from various bodies over the years at home and overseas for permission to erect a plaque of remembrance.

We have the full support from all organisations Veterans’ Association.

An Garda Síochana, Red Cross, Order of Malta, Church of Ireland church body, Foreign Ambassadors based in Ireland.

All that is required now for our extension wall to go ahead is permission from the Thurles Municipal Council.

The Church of Ireland church body is fully behind our proposed extension and we are very grateful to the Church body and the town council.

Thanks to the Municipal District Council and the Heritage Department for all their help and advice over the years.

St Mary's International Garden of Remembrance has become a very special garden of Remembrance, where people from at home and overseas have attended our Remembrance Sunday Ceremonies, Irish Lebanese Culture Foundation, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Easter Republican Annual Ceremonies Masses, and so on.

It is very important that people who had relatives killed in all wars by terrorist authorities in the service of peace at home and overseas have a Garden of Remembrance to visit pay their respects and to say a prayer.

The Committee would like to thank all the people who supported us and attended our Ceremonies over the years.

A special word of thanks to our sponsors Dr Martin and Joe Ann Semple Denver Colorado USA, The Republic of Korea Embassy Dublin, Thurles Municipal District Council, and to all who supported our church gate collection.

We are always looking for main sponsors to help us maintain a very high standard in the upkeep of St Mary's International Garden of Remembrance.
A very special word of thanks to our Ambassador Mr Abdo Haddad in Tibnin, South Lebanon, who represents us at all ceremonies in Lebanon in a dangerous warzone at the moment.

The Irish UN Memorial Garden in Tibnin is twinned with St Mary's International Garden of Remembrance.

Mr Tony Lanigan and our TUS team who help us to maintain St Mary's.
