The recently crowned Rose of Tralee winner has a strong Tipperary connection!

The newly crowned International Rose of Tralee, Katelyn Cummins, has a notable connection to Tipperary through her work with the sponsor of the county’s camogie team.

Katelyn, aged 20, became the first-ever Laois representative to claim the Rose of Tralee title this week. She is currently serving her apprenticeship as an electrician with Alpha Drives, the company owned by Thurles man John Dwan. Alpha Drives has been a proud supporter of Tipperary camogie in recent years.

Speaking after being named the 65th Rose, Katelyn admitted the moment took her by surprise.

“I had my legs crossed and I thought I was going to fall over to be honest. I was just in shock. When they said Laois, I couldn’t believe it.

"My mam and dad were the first people I thought of, and when I spotted them in the crowd I just wanted to hug them straight away,” she said.
