Peader Cummins Inter-Divisional Hurling Cup Final
North Tipperary 3-10
Mid Tipperary 2-5
North Tipperary claimed the 2025 Peader Cummins Cup after a strong performance took down a brave effort from their Mid Tipperary counterparts in Coolmore Morris Park on Saturday morning last.
Played in front of a decent following in the Thurles venue, the North Tipp boys were the better team throughout and had much of the heavy lifting done early in the game.
A strong first half showing set them on their way to victory with team captain Danny Corcoran leading they way with three points in the half, while the outstanding figure of James Ryan of Ballinahinch in at full forward caused havoc all day for the Mid outfit, as Ryan pilfered two goals in that time to help his side to a strong lead at the break, ahead 2-4 to 1-1.
Mid Tipperary struggled to find scores to match at the other end of the pitch and weren’t helped by the loss of JK Brackens player Charlie Doyle who had to be withdrawn after picking up a nasty gash on his head just minutes after scoring an oppotunistic goal in the early seconds of the game, and with only a Killian Cleary free to show for their efforts for the rest of the half, they had a lot of ground to make up in the second half.
Still, it was the North outfit that continued their impressive play in the second half as it took just five minutes for James Ryan to complete his hat-trick, showing huge pace and power to finish from close range.
He was ably assisted in the scoring stakes throughout the game as the aforementioned Danny Corcoran picked off some fine scores from play and placed balls in the second half, while Ashton Moloney and Dylan Corrigan all found the target in the game as the North lads showed too much power in the attacking returns for the Mid Tipperary players to counteract that flow.
While they struggled to keep at the scores, the Mid Tipp effort was much improved in the second half with joint-captain Michael O’Reilly finding the back of the net in the 41st minute, while Tommy Rice, Daithi Dunne, and Killian Cleary all hit the target late on, but it was not going to be enough to stop North Tipperary claiming the title.
Prior to the Cup final, the Shield final also took place between West Tipperary and South Tipperary, with another entertaining contest unfolding.
In the end, it was the West lads who took the victory on a 2-10 to 0-10 scoreline, with the goals proving decisive in the wind-up.
