Ryan and Moloney put Tipperary senior cross country titles on the line on Sunday

In the Men’s race Stuart Moloney of Mooreabbey Milers will be going all out to retain his title won so impressively at the Turnpike last year.

County Senior Cross Country Championships


Cashel is the venue this coming Sunday for the blue-riband events of the County Cross Country season, with the County Senior title down for decision. The women’s race will start at 11am, followed immediately by the Men’s 10k race. The venue is on the Old Dublin/Cork Road, on the R639 out of Cashel.


In the women’s 5k race the defending champion is Dymphna Ryan of Dundrum and she will once again start as a warm favourite. She can expect good competition from the Clonmel duo of Kealey Tideswell and Suzanne Shine, as well as Eileen McCullough of Thurles Crokes.


In the team event with three athletes to score, the defending champions are the host club Dundrum, and they will also be able to call upon such athletes as Karen Coughlan, Catherine Fogarty and Mary Keane to help them try to retain the title.

They can expect good competition from Clonmel, who have won both the Novice and Intermediate club titles and are aiming to add the senior title to their impressive list. They can also call upon such athletes as Sarah Whelan, Elaine Horgan and Anne Marie Halpin.


Also vying for a podium position are Mooreabbey Milers, Thurles Crokes and Moyne.


In the Men’s race Stuart Moloney of Mooreabbey Milers will be going all out to retain his title won so impressively at the Turnpike last year. He can expect good competition from Kevin Moore of Dundrum, the Moycarkey Coolcroo duo of Mossy Bracken and Paddy Cummins, Barry Hartnett of Mooreabbey Milers and Paul Minogue of Clonmel.

Mooreabbey Milers are defending the O’Moore Cup and they will be going all out to retain this coveted title. They will be looking to Tom Blackburn, Willie O’Donoghue and Ger Hanley to carry the day for them.

They can expect good competition from Moycarkey Coolcroo who will be looking to Shane Mullaney, Conor Keating, John Fogarty and Sean Healy to help them take home the O’Moore Cup for the first time.


Other clubs vying for a podium position are Dundrum, Templemore, Carrick-on-Suir and Clonmel in another competitive race.
