A woman who admitted stabbing her ex-partner in the arm told police if she had wanted to kill him 'she would have stuck it somewhere else' Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.
Michaela Shields (34) of Circular Road in Derry appeared charged with wounding a man with intent to commit grievous bodily harm on August 1.
A police officer connected the accused to the charge and told the court police had concerns about bail.
She said police received a report from a man who said he had been stabbed in the arm by his former partner and he said he was outside the house with his 12-years-old son.
He told police the woman, the defendant, had stabbed him in the arm with a knife.
Police entered the address and the defendant told them she had stabbed the man in self defence after he had grabbed her by the throat.
The man had a wound on his arm and bite marks on his nose.
Police were told the pair had been drinking and an argument started and the alleged victim said he had the woman had followed him into the kitchen and he her reach for something and the next thing he felt blood on his arm.
The incident was witnessed by the 12-year-old child.
The woman told police that the man had pushed her down and grabbed her by the throat.
She said she bit him on the nose to try and get him away and after he threw a glass at her and grabbed her by the throat she had stabbed him.
The police officer said the defendant had claimed she would 'murder' the man.
The court was told that police were concerned that the address of the defendant was close to the alleged victim.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said his client had made a self defence argument.
He said that Shields had no record.
Shields was released on bail on condition she has no contact with the alleged victim, she observes a curfew and wears a tag and does not consume alcohol.
She will appear again on August 24.
