Final Donnacha Ryan Luke Memorial Truck and Tractor Run from Tipperary Town to Doon sees biggest turn-out

The final Donnacha Ryan Luke Memorial Truck and Tractor Run will live long in the memory, just like the young man who inspired the third annual event.

Every type of truck, tractor, car, motorbike and even children’s toy vehicles imaginable were on display on the charity day. It also featured Donnacha's own tractor.

It was rounded off with a night of music, dancing and a celebration of a young man taken far, far too soon - Donnacha Ryan (Luke).

The teenager, from Shanacloon, Cappamore passed away just days after his 18th birthday in a tragic road traffic incident in August 2022.

His bereft parents Mikey and Nicola, sister Aisling, and a hard-working committee organised the first Donnacha Ryan Luke Memorial Truck and Tractor Run in 2023.

It was supposed to be a one-off, just like Donnacha, but the first one was such a success that they ran it again in 2024.

Again, hundreds of vehicles set off from the Tipperary Town Plaza and headed in the direction of Doon with a family fun day and concert in the community centre.

Donnacha looked after his family as the sun shone on each run. This year’s charity event was no different with the sun beating down and it was the biggest yet.

A common refrain during the three truck and tractor runs was, “Donnacha would be in his element”.

The last Donnacha Ryan Luke Memorial Truck and Tractor Run was led out by Blood Bike Mid-West who said they were honoured to do so.

“It was an amazing sight and a great day. Thanks to the family and organisers of this event,” they wrote in a social media post.

They are one of numerous charities to benefit from the events. Over the three years, the total amount raised for good causes is an incredible €200,000.

Donnacha’s parents Mikey and Nicola, and sister Aisling, wished to thank every single person involved in, and  gave their time to make the three tractor and truck runs and entertainment afterwards such a beautiful tribute to their beloved boy.
