It’s been a busy time, and one of real change at Gaelscoil Thiobraid Árann as of late.
The summer of 2025 brought about two high profile retirements from much beloved members of staff at the school, and the exciting opening of a new outdoor classroom.
The school released the following statement on the retirement of their much-loved principal, Múinteoir Eoghan, after years of astounding leadership.

“After seventeen years of inspiring leadership, Múinteoir Eoghan, our long-serving and much-loved principal of Gaelscoil Thiobraid Árann, is bidding farewell as he moves on to take up a new position at a school closer to home,” the statement began.
“Since stepping into the role of principal in 2008, Múinteoir Eoghan has been at the heart of Gaelscoil Thiobraid Árann. His passion for an Ghaeilge, unwavering commitment to student wellbeing, and deep respect for the school community have shaped the school into what it is today; a vibrant, caring and thriving environment for learning.
“Throughout his tenure, Múinteoir Eoghan led with vision, kindness, and integrity. He guided the school through times of growth, change, and challenge, always placing the needs of the children at the centre of every decision.
His dedicated leadership helped nurture not just academic excellence but also a deep love of Irish culture, language and community spirit.
“From morning greetings at the school gate to heartfelt speeches at school concerts and events, Múinteoir Eoghan’s presence was a constant source of encouragement and warmth.
Generations of students, parents, and staff have benefited from his wisdom, his support and his ability to bring people together.
“Speaking about his departure, staff members described him as a “true leader” and “a mentor who always led by example.” Parents reflected on the open, welcoming atmosphere he cultivated making Gaelscoil Thiobraid Árann feel very much like a second home and pupils fondly remembered his humour, fairness, and his belief in every child’s potential.
“Though Gaelscoil Thiobraid Árann will feel his absence deeply, Múinteoir Eoghan leaves behind a strong and lasting legacy; one of community, culture and care immersed in a deep commitment to Irish immersion education. His next school is lucky to have him and we have no doubt that he will bring the same dedication and heart to his new role.”

This June also marked the end of an era at Gaelscoil Thiobraid Árann, as the school bade a heartfelt farewell to its treasured secretary, Mairéad, who retired after 20 years of dedicated service.
“For two decades, Mairéad has been more than just the friendly face at the front office,” the school insisted.
“Mairéad handled every task with kindness, efficiency, and a warm smile. Her deep knowledge of the school, her loyalty, and her quiet strength made her a cornerstone of daily life at Gaelscoil Thiobraid Árann.
“Teachers spoke of her incredible support and calm presence behind the scenes. Parents remember how she always had time for a chat, a reassuring word or a helpful reminder.
Pupils, both past and present, will never forget her smile at the front desk, the plasters she provided, or the gentle kindness she showed when they needed it most.
In many ways, Mairéad has been the quiet engine that helped keep the school running smoothly, never seeking attention, but always there, always dependable, and always giving her best.
“As she embarks on a well-deserved retirement, we reflect not just on her years of hard work, but on the warmth and humour she brought to every single day. Her presence will be deeply missed but her legacy of care and commitment will live on in the fabric of Gaelscoil Thiobraid Árann.”
Finally, as things often come in threes, Tuesday, June 24th marked a proud and memorable day at Gaelscoil Thiobraid Árann as the school celebrated the official opening of its new outdoor classroom, Gáirdín Shéamuis.
The innovative outdoor space, developed as part of the school’s vision for creative, nature-based learning, was officially opened by Seámus’ wife Nuala De hÍde, son Seán and daughter Máire in a joyful ribbon-cutting ceremony that brought together pupils, staff, families, and members of the wider school community.
Named in memory of Séamus De hÍde, a key-player in getting our new building ratified and past- chairperson of our school, Gáirdín Shéamuis is a tribute to many core values that he instilled - curiosity, respect for nature and lifelong learning. It includes a thoughtfully designed teaching area, an open space for exploration and a stone bath providing an enriching wellness and sensory feature for pupils of Gaelscoill Thiobraid Árann.
Eloquent music from the harp played by our pupil, Róise Pickrell, evoked a sense of calmness and beauty during our ceremony. Archdeacon Eugene bestowed his blessing upon Gáirdín Shéamuis, consecrating the garden as a sacred space of peace, remembrance and community spirit.
“Míle Buíochas le Coiste na dTuismitheoirí – a heartfelt thank you to the schools very active Parents Committee who put in endless hours of work and dedication to carry out this fabulous and worthwhile project,” the school said as they look forward to using the facility come September.
