Clonmel Credit Union League Division 2
Two Mile Borris 2 – 1 Suirside
Borris Seconds claimed the Division Two title with a game to spare in very blustery conditions in Newhill Park on Sunday last, giving the club representation next season in both of the top two divisions in the TSDL.
Chances in this game were few and far between in the first half with the wind hampering both teams’ efforts to play nice football. Both keepers were kept quiet, until right on the stroke of half time when the home side took the lead thanks to a DJ Troy effort that managed to squeeze past the Suirside keeper at his near post.
The second half started fast and Suirside aided by the wind got back on level terms within four minutes of the restart scoring from a setpiece. Both goalkeepers were being tested throughout the half, as the pace stepped up from the first 45 minutes, but the crucial goal came five minutes after the hour mark when Troy got released down the right wing and headed straight for goal and released an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net.
After that the home side settled into defensive mode, while always looking for opportunities to hit on the break, and in the end claimed the three points that sparked huge celebrations amongst team, management and supporters.
The win is testament to the work being put in by the mid Tipperary side at underage level, with seven youths’ players on the pitch on Sunday, a real sign that great things might be just around the corner for the club.
