Athletics Ireland has selected an eleven-strong team for the upcoming World Athletics Relay Championships, which take place in Nassau, the Bahamas on Saturday May 4 and Sunday May 5.

An Irish Mixed 4x400 metres and Women’s 4x400 metres team will take to the track at the Thomas Robinson Stadium aiming to secure all-important qualification for the Olympic Games that take place in Paris in just over one hundred days' time.

The top fourteen teams in each event qualify for the Olympics.

Sharlene Mawdsley (Newport AC) is an athlete who will be hoping to make a positive impact on both teams' quest for Olympic qualification.

Tipperary woman Mawdsley anchored the Mixed and Women’s relay teams in Budapest last summer and more recently was part of the Women’s team that finished fifth in the final of the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow in March.
