PADDY PURTILL CUP SEMI-FINAL
GALBALLY UNITED 0 CASHEL TOWN 2
The teams had to wait until extra-time to see the goals that decided this Paddy Purtill Cup semi-final, before two goals in that time gave Cashel Town a final place in the decider and a chance to make up for their heartbreak in the Tipperary Cup semi final earlier last week.
It was a typically tense cup tie with few chances over the regulation 90 minutes. Jordan Dineen had a goal ruled out in the first half for offside, and Ger Quinlan went close early in the second half for the hosts.
Cashel Town got on top for the final 15 minutes in normal time and were unlucky not to score with a couple of goal line clearances saving the home side.
But deep in time added on in the first half of extra-time, the deadlock was finally broken when a superb 30 yard pile by Sean Fitzpatrick found the bottom corner of the Galbally United net.
The visitors doubled their lead less than a minute later when Callum Meaghar bundled home from close range to put them in pole position for a final spot.
Galbally United piled on the pressure in the second period of extra-time with Owen O’Sullivan and Cathal O’Mahony both going close, but Cashel Town held out to secure a place in the final against Vee Rovers at Cahir Park on Saturday night next.
