County Junior B hurling final goes to Thurles Sarsfields
The Blues down Newport to add the junior B county title to their senior crown.
Thurles Sarsfields added the Tipperary Water County Junior B hurling championship to their trophy haul for the season with a late late victory over North championship Newport at Anacarthy this afternoon.
Under difficult conditions and bitter cold, the Thurles me were in arrears by two points at the interval, but they rallied in the second half to take the lead. However, Newport reeled them in and went in front again before Sarsfields showed great appetite for the battle and came good late on to claim the spoils and emulate their senior team by winning the county title.
This was a very competitive, tough and uncompromising game of hurling as is the norm at this time of the year and Sarsfields blend of youth and experience won the day - they had Munster senior club medalist from a few years ago, and veteran Jim Corbett, operating at centre forward where he played a very effective role.
Victory is no mean feat for the club - their fourth adult team, whereas they were taking on Newports second string and had it all to do to get over the line.
