Tipperary County Council has granted planning permission for the conversion of a former retail premises into student accommodation.
The building, formerly used as a tailoring shop, is set to be turned into student accommodation for students attending the TUS and MIC campuses in Thurles.

The plans will see three student accommodation bedrooms go into the building, which sits on the corner of Friar Street and Croke Street in Thurles, just before the entry into Liberty Square.
The plans will bring about a change of use of the ground floor retail premises to residential, to incorporate the existing first and second floor residential with minor internal changes to a single dwelling unit for student accommodation with all associated siteworks and elevational changes to the shop front.

The permission has been granted conditionally, with the County Council stating that the property must solely be used for student accommodation purposes, that the construction works must be carried out in such a fashion that the works do not disrupt the town and its people with regards to noise and dust pollution, and that the developers must pay the County Council a sum of €346.50 for amenities provided by the Council.
