Emergency services attend Thurles Leisure Centre after chemical reaction causes pool evacuation

Patrons were asked to leave the Thurles Leisure Centre pool on Monday, and the facility remains closed to the public until further notice

Staff at Thurles Leisure Centre have told Tipperary Live that a serious incident occured at the changing room and swimming pool area of the centre on Monday, August 11.

A statement issued by the centre's acting manager, June Kavanagh, states that emergency services, consisting of the local fire brigade and one ambulance, were called to Thurles Leisure Centre following a chemical reaction which occured during a routine cleaning of the changing facilities.

As per the Leisure Centre protocols, the fire brigade were called to attend and deal with the reaction.

On the advice of the fire services, Leisure Centre staff removed all patrons from the pool with immediate effect.

The centre remains closed to the public until the area concerned can be further inspected.

It is hoped that the centre will re-open on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 12.
