A new housing development featuring 60 residential units and a childcare facility has been given the green light for the Brittas Road area in Thurles, county Tipperary.

O'Ceallaigh Westfield Ltd lodged the application with Tipperary County Council on October 25 of 2024, seeking permission for the significant development.
The proposed development includes a mix of housing types: five four-bedroom, seven-person two-storey semi-detached houses, 11 three-bedroom, five-person two-storey semi-detached houses, 16 three-bedroom, five-person two-storey semi-detached houses, and 12 two-bedroom, four-person two-storey terraced houses.
Additionally, the plans feature two duplex blocks, each containing four ground-floor two-bedroom, three-person units and four first-floor one-bedroom, two-person units.

Alongside the housing, the development will include a two-storey detached creche with capacity for 47 children.
The application also sought approval for the demolition of an existing detached bungalow and shed on the site.
The proposed infrastructure includes a new vehicular entrance from Brittas Road, local roads and footpaths, resident and visitor parking, designated parking for the creche, bicycle parking, an external communal bin store, and landscaped amenity areas.

According to a planning cover letter from K-Design Studios, this development represents the first phase on the landholdings, with a master plan allowing for an additional 52 residential units in future phases, subject to a separate application.
The council attached 22 conditions to its decision.
