Cllr John O’Heney released a statement regarding the house fire, calling it “an awful tragedy.”

“My deepest condolences extend to the O’Halloran and O’Dwyer families on the tragic and sudden passing of Marguerite last night.

"There is a deep sense of shock in Tipperary Town, Lattin and the surrounding areas today upon hearing the sad news. Marguerite was a gentle and kind soul. Every time I had the pleasure of speaking to her she always spoke so proudly of her children and their achievements: Mikey, Connie, Aoife and Jack.

"To her husband Toddy, mother Kitty, brother Jimmy, her extended family, relatives and friends. She will be fondly remembered and missed by many. Let us hope her family find strength during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all. May Marguerite Rest In Eternal Peace.”

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene of the fire at a house at Dillon Street, at approximately 8:30pm on Friday night and the body of a woman in her 50s was discovered at the property.

The house is preserved for the carrying out of technical examinations and investigations are ongoing.
