An exciting new exhibition recently opened up to the public in Knockanrawley Resource Centre, Tipperary Town. The exhibition showcases the talents of two volunteers of the centre's garden, Karris Doyle and Frank O’Dwyer.

Frank decided to display two chairs he recently upholstered in the new exhibition. “I’ve been attending an upholstery course once a week for the past two years in Cork. It gives me a creative outlet and I’m working on a new chair now with a hummingbird on it, as a nod to the garden here at the resource centre,” says Frank. Frank explains that the chairs he upholstered were found locally in a charity shop, making them a sustainable addition to someone’s home.

Speaking with Karris, who has her photographs of the garden displayed at the exhibition, she explains what inspired her to take the photos. “I love the outdoors, I volunteer here three times a week in the garden. When I first came here there were so many flowers and bugs, I used to look for them at home but we don’t have as many as they do here. I started focusing in on them and decided to capture insects on the flowers and then edit those photos,” says Karris.

“My favourite photo is the butterfly picture that blends in with the flower. It’s also so easy finding insects in the garden to photograph, because there’s so many in this garden,” explains Karris.

The garden at the Knockanrawley Resource Centre focuses on biodiversity and also contains an insect hotel, providing Karris with many more insects to photograph every day.

The exhibition opened up at the recent open day for the Knockanrawley Resource Centre and anyone is welcome to come and visit it.

The photographs of the garden taken by Karris are each priced at €50.

The exhibition space at the centre will now be a permanent space for showing and supporting local artists.
