UPDATE: Uisce Éireann still working to restore water supplies to 2,000 customers in Tipperary

Uisce Éireann crews are continuing to work to restore water supplies to customers across Tipperary who have been affected by recent heavy snowfall. Crews have worked alongside ESB and Local Authority teams in difficult freezing conditions to respond to outages at local treatment plants and bursts on the network.

Approximately 2,000 customers are without water or experiencing intermittent supply primarily on the Galtee Regional Scheme, Ardfinnan, Templeteney and in some parts of Killenaule on Fethard Regional Scheme. Other customers continue to be impacted by low pressure as water supplies replenish following recent outages. The overall number of people affected by water outages is down from approx. 4,200 yesterday and a high of approx. 18,000 customers on Monday.

Uisce Éireann’s Colin Cunningham said “crews have worked in freezing conditions to restore water to as many homes as possible and I’d like to thank them for their ongoing efforts. Our priority is the provision of clean safe drinking water to communities and the safety of water services staff who work to make that happen.

"While water supply is improving, it is expected to take time for supply to return to normal for all customers, especially as low temperatures are expected to continue over the coming days which is expected to have further impacts on water supplies.
We’re urging people to insulate outside taps, exposed pipes and tanks, to check for leaks and to turn off water to exterior pipes or unoccupied premises.

"We are also asking people to conserve water in the coming days to help us manage water across the network and to never leave taps running as this will not necessarily prevent pipes from freezing and can impact on local water supply.
Additional Plumbing crews and leak detection staff are on standby over the weekend as a high volume of bursts could occur when temperatures improve and ground begins to thaw”.

Update on Water Supplies Impacted:

Killenaule

The Killenaule area on Fethard Regional Scheme reservoir is starting to fill and customers will begin to regain supply.

However it will be late afternoon tomorrow before all customers regain their supply.

The impacted areas are Killenaule, Ballununty, Killeens, Monslatt, Kilbrennal, Lanespark, Glengoole North/South, Poynstown, Clonoura, Mellison, Coole, Knockboy, Ballysloe, Crabb, Boulick, Gortnahoe and surrounding areas.

Alternative water supplies are at Ballynunty (Perry's coffee shop), Glengoole (Church), Ballysloe (Hogan's carpark), Gortnahoe Community Hall, and Killenaule National School.

Water has returned to a lot of areas on the Galtee Regional Scheme though parts of the west of the scheme are still experiencing no water/reduced pressure.

However, full supply is expected to be back to all areas by this evening/tonight with the exception of high elevation areas in Emly which will take until tomorrow.

Alternative Water Supplies are in place at Emly GAA, Lattin GAA, Monard (Church at Solahead) and Mount Bruise National School.

Ardfinnan

The Ardfinnan Scheme is running well but reservoir levels are low as the network refills.
Customers served from Jamestown reservoir will experience low pressure/intermittent supply/no water for another day.
A water tanker is in place at Barne Lodge Pub. The impacted areas are: Ballyclerahan, Newchapel, Barn, Rathkeevin, Chancellorstown and surrounding areas.

Some high elevation areas at Grange and Ballyea are experiencing supply challenges, and with normal supply not expected back until tomorrow afternoon (Thursday).
An Alternative Water Source is set to be deployed at Grange National School (E91 KT67) and will be in place by 9am on Thursday.

Templeteney Scheme

On the Templeteney Scheme reservoir levels have built and water has returned to many areas. However it is still slow returning to the ends of network in the areas of Ballydine, Deerpark, Ballynaraha and surrounding areas. Water will be returning throughout the tonight and tomorrow morning.

An alternative water source is available adjacent to Dove Hill shopping centre (approx. 400m past Dove Hill).

Silvermines

Crews are also attending a burst pipe in Silvermines, which is causing supply disruptions. Repairs are complete and supply is expected to be returned to all customers by 8pm tonight.
