Ormond Castle
Carrick-on-Suir’s Ormond Castle is a hive of activity for National Heritage Week with a market and interesting history talks and events planned for the people of the town.
The second Explore Carrick-on-Suir market will feature a diverse selection of crafts and artisan food stands at Ormond Castle on Saturday, August 16 from 11am to 4pm.

While the market is taking place, south Kilkenny historian and storyteller Davy Holden, whose social media history videos are a big hit online, will host the Storytelling at Ormond Castle event from 1.30pm to 3pm.
People planning to attend this free event must book their place in advance as seats are limited. You are invited to bring along your memories, stories, old photos and artifacts. Alternatively you can just attend to listen and enjoy.
The event is being organised by Explore Carrick-on-Suir tourism initiative and contributions to it will become part of The Tides of Time Oral Archive at Carrick Heritage Centre.
Carrick-on-Suir Brass Band will perform at the Castle at 3pm to conclude the event.
You can immerse yourself further in Carrick-on-Suir’s rich history on Sunday, August 17 when Ormond Castle guide Helena Power will give a talk at the Castle on Carrick-on-Suir's heritage sites at 3pm.
Meanwhile, Carrick-on-Suir’s Tudor Artisan Hub is hosting Dr Siobhán Doyle’s talk and presentation on the history of the GAA at Ormond Castle on Monday, August 18 at 7pm. The talk and presentation will be based on Dr Doyle’s book – A History of the GAA in 100 Objects.
