The life of an Olympic athlete can be a challenging one with rigorous training and strict anti-doping controls and Tipperary sprinter Sharlene Mawdsley has shed some light on what it is really like behind the scenes.
On Wednesday night, she posted on Instagram and informed followers that she had just been visited by representatives from Sport Ireland Anti-Doping.

"I always get a lot of questions when I get tested. You have to log an hour slot that you're definitely going to be at the accommodation you provide.
"The anti-doping officers can call outside your hour and if you are home you are obliged to be tested. Today's test was blood and urine."

The Newport native competed in several races at the 2024 Paris Olympics, including the women's 4x400m relay race, which saw Ireland claim an incredible fourth place.
Another asked about her favourite sporting memory, she replied: "Everything about Paris".
The 26-year-old Irish Olympian, who up until recently had been in Cape Town with her teammates, updated her followers of her visit to the Folk Tattoo Observatory during a rest day.
