‘Friendships Highway’: Assisting Irish Girls’ Friendly Society members as they emigrated from Ireland, c1885- 1935 is the title of the March lecture from the Tipperary People and Places series.
It takes place in The Source Arts Centre, Thurles on Tuesday, March 18, at 7pm.

Dr Martin Walsh, Project Officer for the Oral History Project at University of Limerick is currently digitising the records of the Irish Girls’ Friendly Society.
His talk will look at the girls who had a connection with Tipperary and what happened them after they were assisted by the society.

Martin’s research focuses on the visibility of working glass women in England and in Ireland in the late 19th and early 20th century and the fears moralists had about their exposure to immorality.
