Tipperary students raise €1000 for Meitheal 21 in inspiring mini-company project

A group of enterprising students from a moderate general learning needs class have proven that great things can come from small ideas.

Last October, the girls launched their very own mini-company, Dún Chaoin Charmers, and this week, they proudly handed over a cheque for €1,000 to Meitheal 21, the Tipperary branch of Down Syndrome Ireland.

The students created handmade bookmarks as part of the company, a process that not only fostered creativity and teamwork, but also helped them to develop their fine motor skills.

Every stage of the project, from production to advertising to sales, was driven by the students, with guidance and encouragement from their dedicated Special Needs Assistants: Frances, Bernie, Sue and Ann and teacher Ms Rochelle O’Sullivan.

The team behind Dún Chaoin Charmers includes Annabelle, Maria, Maya, Taylor, Marie, Gracie and Ciara, whose hard work and determination brought their project to life and made it a remarkable success.

As a mark of appreciation for their generous donation, the Dún Chaoin Charmers’ logo will be featured on the jersey worn by cyclists in the upcoming Tour de Munster, helping to spread their message of inclusion and community spirit even further.

This inspiring project has not only benefited a vital local cause but has also given the students an unforgettable experience in entrepreneurship, teamwork and giving back.
