It was the third call in a week for the South Eastern Mountain Rescue (SEMRA) group in Tipperary after a walker sent an urgent text.

In a statement, SEMRA said: "We were contacted by An Garda Síochána at 4.30pm on November 28 to assist a walker who had become disorientated in the dark and ended up on steep ground.

"The walker made the sensible decision to call for help, a phone find text was sent to confirm their location, they had extra layers and phone battery back up so they were advised to hold their location until team members reached them.
"Team members and vehicles were dispatched to the Nire Valley car park and they made their way into the walkers location.

"The walker was guided back out to the Nire Valley car park and then transported back to their car.
"Everyone safely off the hill at 8pm and ready to head for home.
"A busy week for SEMRA after Long Way Round."
