New information board for the Derrynaflan Loop

Thanks to the Derrynaflan Loop Walk Committee, who with Littleton Development Development Association and Tipperary Co.Council, have recently erected an information board with a map of the 9km route starting at the Ballalley and returning via Lurgoe village. Another shorter option is to walk to Derrynaflan Island with its historic church and a panoramic view of the Slieveardagh Hills.

"Ye Horse and Jockey" was the name of a popular Inn since the middle ages; the village was a staging post for the Bianconi Coaches from the late 18th to early 19th century; the Thurles to Clonmel railway line of 25 miles opened on 1st June 1880 and closed on 9th September 1963; in 1889 the Horse and Jockey team were All Ireland champions. The village also has a strong tradition of handball, athletics and horse racing.

Visitors can avail of the fast-food deli at O' Keeffe's shop or a more substantial meal at the Horse and Jockey Hotel.
